Neopolitan Networks Recognized for "Narrowing the Digital Divide" while Preserving Fragile Environment
PALO ALTO, California, September 15, 2004 — The most innovative Ethernet Network Service Provider, Neopolitan Networks, Inc., today announced that it had been recognized both by US House Representative Mike Honda and by Mid-Peninsula Regional Open Space District for its effort in providing broadband access to the residents and small businesses of the South Skyline area of Silicon Valley while preserving the fragile environment. Neopolitan Networks was able to "bring high-speed Internet access to South Skyline residents in an environmentally sound way," said L. Craig Britton, General Manager of the Open Space District. Citing that there are approximately 1,000 residents spread over an area of over 100 square miles who live near or adjacent to the Open Space Preserves which are environmentally protected, Britton added, "Residents are now able to work from their homes instead of commuting long distances. They can telecommute or operate small businesses from their homes, which saves gas and causes less pollution." "Before the availability of Neopolitan's service, residents received only a maximum speed of 24 Kbps dial-up Internet access," said Robles. "They now receive speeds of up to 3,000 Kbps. We were able to install our wireless equipment in existing buildings of the Open Space Preserve and extend our fiber network to the peak of Black Mountain. It was not necessary to install additional towers or other equipment that would have had an impact on the environment and on the visual aesthetics of the public open space lands." "The innovative contributions made by Neopolitan Networks in helping narrow the digital divide for the residents of South Skyline area shows that businesses can expand into rural areas with minimal cost while providing a service to those residents," said Honda. "Such actions bring us closer together in the digital era." A plaque from Honda was presented to Frank R. Robles, CEO of Neopolitan Networks, at the ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception last Wednesday. The phrase "digital divide" was first used by the US Government in 1998 and refers to the gap between those who have access to the computers and the Internet, and those who have not. The US Government has been working to narrow that gap. About Neopolitan Networks, Inc.
